February 6 West Surrey monthly run
The aim is to hold runs during the winter months to blow away
the cobwebs from our cars. On the first Sunday of the month
a small group of Morris cars makes its way to a suitable location
which invariably means an inn with good food and drink. For the
February run we met at the Jovial Sailor, Send, the previous venue
of the West Surrey MR noggin where the instructions on how to
reach our goal were handed out.
The picture shows that the cobwebs were more likely to be washed
than blown away and all of the hoods were erected before lunch.
The instructions were very easy to follow and we were expected
to answer some questions while we were driving along. The
hard suspension meant that writing the answers down was always
more difficult than finding them. No, we did not want to
stop otherwise we would have reached our destination after opening
time. All six cars made it to the Anchor but in our haste
we arrived too early so we all went for a walk down the towpath
of the adjacent canal as it had stopped raining. The exercise
sharpened our appetites so we were the first customers into the
bar when we returned. After the excellent meal came the
moment of truth when it was announced that five of the six participants
had scored maximum points on the questions. The tie breaker
questions were eagerly awaited and it was agreed that the winners
were Rick and Lucy who have yet to organise a run - the prize
is that they will organise the next run in April. Next month
is the London to Brighton run or, as it has become, the Merton
to Hove run.
